Listen to nature.
Build gently.
Soft Robotics Lab explores soft robotics, tactile sensing and bio-inspired systems through a science-first approach: study how nature solves a problem, then build technology that is gentle, useful and safe around people.
01 — RESEARCH
What we build
Bio-inspired robots, tactile sensors and inspection systems, organized around six standing research lines.
02 — FLAGSHIP
LumiR: assistive navigation robot
An AI-integrated mobile robot that helps people with visual impairments move safely and independently. LumiR combines 240° LiDAR, computer vision and wireless haptic feedback — guidance reaches the user through a vibrating glove and bone-conduction audio, leaving their own senses free.
03 — PROJECTS
Selected projects
Each project answers a question with hardware and code.
04 — PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Dr. Son Tien Bui
MEMBER, IEEE · LECTURER, HAUI
Son Tien Bui (Member, IEEE) received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam, in 2009 and 2012 respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Robotics at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Japan, in 2023, under the Soft Haptics Lab.
He has managed Fablab HaUI — an open laboratory for student research — since 2016, and leads Soft Robotics Lab as a research initiative focused on bio-inspired robotics, soft sensing and human-centered assistive systems.
